The player takes the role of a green Sour Patch Kid who wishes to be eaten, as do other candy in the game. At the start of the game, the character and his red friend are about to be taken to a theater to be sold when a rip in the packaging causes the red candy to fall out. The packet is purchased by a movie-goer; when the green candy is about to be eaten the buyer trips causing the green candy to be thrown in the trash. He then sets off on a journey with the goal of being eaten, while encountering other abandoned Sour Patch Kids. He also meets corrupted Sour Patch Kids who have gone "sour" and are lashing out at others for being forgotten.[1]

Despite such bouts of dark humor, nothing casts a shadow over World Gone Sour quite like Little Big Planet, which manifests itself in everything from the level design and frequent checkpoints to the competitive leaderboards and monsters cobbled together from everyday junk. Bubblegum monstrosities shamble about like rotting zombies through every level, and our green hero double jumps and slides on everything from bags of potato chips at a concession stand to broken aquariums in what must be the world's messiest (and deadliest) girl's bedroom.

Perhaps it's best to consider World Gone Sour in comparison to the product that inspires it. At five bucks, it's only slightly more expensive than a bag of Sour Patch Kids at the local movie theater, and with a running time of around five hours, it'll probably last longer, too. It may not be as good as other offerings available, and the rush it provides is fleeting at best, but if you're just looking for a cheap distraction, you could do worse than a sweet-and-sour romp through the dark side of candyland.

The ability to rotate your world makes the game stand out. Pressing the left or right trigger spins the world 90 degrees. The game, however, remains 2D, so the change in perspective moves objects in unexpected ways.

World Gone Sour is a 2D platformer developed by both Beefy Media and Playbrains and published by Capcom for the PC, Xbox 360 (via Xbox Live Arcade), and PlayStation 3 (via PlayStation Network) on April 11, 2012. An advergame based on the sour sugar coated candy Sour Patch Kids, players control a green (or blue, for player two) Sour Patch Kid who must make it through different levels such as a movie theatre concession stand to take his rightful place inside a human stomach.

As noted, the game is a puzzle platformer, offering quick and easy jumping fun across three areas, complete with mini-bosses and end of world final bosses. Hidden inside of that is a Pikmin style game mechanic where you collect smaller Sour Patch Kids to use as minions to attack enemies, change size or interact with the environment.

Last week, The BoomBox premiered the behind-the-scenes visuals of Method Man's new video for 'World Gone Sour: The Lost Kids,' and now, the final product is here. The Wu-Tang Clan rapper has gone from performing magic tricks with the sour treats to rhyming about their mischievous ways.

"I'm excited to be collaborating with Sour Patch Kids and telling the story of how they've gone all wrong," Method Man tells The BoomBox. "I love the steps that the brand is taking to keep it real and interesting, the whole campaign, and letting Meth be Meth -- brilliant."

The multi-colored sweet-and-sour treats act out in a recording studio, messing with Meth's audio, unplug electronics and break eggs in a refrigerator -- pretty extraordinary behavior for a bunch of well-recognized candies.

If you listed all the possible topics for a new rap by Method Man, "Sour Patch Kids" probably wouldn't rank very high. However, this new music video strangely works. "World Gone Sour (The Lost Kids)" features Method Man rapping about the sour-turned-sweet "little dudes" that are "on your Facebook, deleting all your friends."

Words escape me. I'm not trying to be cute or anything, I honestly have no words for this. OK, Capcom has announced that they're publishing a game called World Gone Sour which is based on the Sour Patch Kids candy, and I am NOT even kidding. Players take the role of a small piece of candy that navigates through a regular human sized world solving puzzles, fighting candy, and...I can't do this.
